About Bodh Gaya
A Buddhist pilgrimage in Bihar, Bodh Gaya is a small town only 160 miles
east of the holy Hindu city of Banaras. Bodh Gaya is the birthplace of
Buddhism, for about 2,500 years ago, Prince Siddhartha Gautama (born in 566
BCE) sat down under a pipal tree here and received the enlightenment. He
later on came to be known as Gautam Buddha, the preacher of Buddhism. This
village in Bihar is considered to be the religious tourism hub for the
Buddhist pilgrims.
The Landscape
Bodh Gaya is a village and is near Gaya, a Hindu pilgrimage. The village is
full of ancient caves and monuments of the ancient Buddhist kings. Some of
them include the Vajrasana, the Animeshlochana, the ancient railings, the
Barbar cave, the Karan Chaupar cave etc. Altogether it is a quiet and
religious place far from hustle bustles of cities.
The Climate
It is hot during the summer in Bodh Gaya, the temperature can go up to 47
degree Celsius. However winters are cool, in the daytime the temperature
range is 14-18 degree Celsius. In the nights it might fall down to 4 degree
Celsius.
