Introduction
Common
Wealth Games is a world class sports event, held at a regular interval of 4
years. And it is a matter of pride for India that for the first time Common
Wealth Games, 2010 is going to be organized at New Delhi, the national
capital of India. And India is all set to conquer the world. The scheduled
date for this esteemed upcoming multi-sport event is from 3rd October to
14th October. India has won the opportunity to host the Common Wealth Games
by defeating Canada by 46 votes to 22 at the CGF General Assembly held in
Montego Bay in November 2003.
Logo and Slogan of CWG 2010
The logo for the Commonwealth Games 2010 is inspired from the Ashoka
Chakra, a symbol of freedom, unity and power. The logo was revealed on 6th
January 2008 at an event held at the India Gate. The logo has spirals at the
upward direction which symbolizes rise of India as a global power and
showcasing its transition from a traditional country to a modern country.
The colors of the logo symbolizes diverse and vibrant culture of India and
its people. Apart from this each part of the logo symbolizes India's whole
hearted welcome to the71Commonwealth nations and territories.
The slogan for the forthcoming Common Wealth Games of 2010 is “ Come
Out and play”.
Participating Nations Of CWG 2010
There are currently 85 nations planning to field teams at the 2010
Commonwealth Games. In alphabetical order, these nations are:

At the previous Common Wealth Games which was held at Melbourne city of
Australia, India was ranked fourth. So, it is an ideal time for India to
prove itself as a strong sport nation. Not only in Cricket, Indians are best
in other disciplines of sports also.
2010 's Common Wealth Games includes 17 disciplines of sports namely:
Aquatics, Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics,
Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Net Ball, Shooting, Squash, Rugby 7”s Table Tennis,
Triathlon, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
Venue For CWG 2010
The opening and closing ceremony is scheduled to take place at the
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. Venues for Common Wealth Games 2010 are
Jawarhal Lal Nehru stadium for Athletics, lawn bowl and weightlifting, Dhyan
Chand National Stadium for hockey, Indira Gandhi Arena for Archery, Cycling,
Gymanstics and Wrestling, Delhi University Sport Complex for Rugby 7s,
Tyagaraj Sports Complex for Netball, Siri Fort Sports Complex for Badminton
and Squash,
Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range for shooting, Talkatora Stadium for boxing,
SPM Swimming Pool Complex for Aquatics, RK Khanna Tennis Complex for Tennis,
Yamuna Sports Complex for Table Tennis are the main venues for this
multi-sport event.
Games Village
Delhi development Authority(DDA) has built a new, modern Games Village
along the east bank of the Yamuna River at a cost of USD 230.7 million. The
Games Village will be stretches over an area of 63.5 hectare (158.4 acre)
and is situated near the famous Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple. This Games
Village has a capacity to acquaint a maximum of 8,500 athletes and officials
of these 85 participating nations.
