The
golden sands covering in the neighborhood, the Jaisalmer Fort is sheer magic
in the sands of
Thar Desert. Jaisalmer fort
was built in 1156 and is the second oldest in Rajasthan. Two hundred and
fifty feet tall and reinforced by an imposing crenellated sandstone wall 30
feet high, it has 99 turrets. Wells within the fort still provide a regular
source of water.

Today, the fort has a population of merchants and shop owners living within
its walls. Small, winding lanes are packed with houses, temples, and shops.
Jaisalmer fort is alive with people going about their daily routines. The

make it a schedule to visit these festivals each year.
The architecture of the Jaisalmer fort is truly called "exquisite"
by many tourists. The five-storied edifice is decorated with vast balconies
and big windows, while the interior built in Rajput style. The beautiful
Jain temples, inside the fort, also attract many tourists.
The Fort built with golden Yellow sandstone, over 800 years old, matches to
the crown of a king atop the Trikuta hill. Within its massive walls, lies
the old city, now a part only of the modern Jaisalmer. Once a wealthy trade
town, Jaisalmer is now a military destination.
“This castle was beyond my imagination. I just wonder it is so
dynamic as yet, what has been its grandeur when it was intially made?”
added Patrick.
Part of the Desert Triangle and the venue of Desert Festival, this place
witnesses large flow of tourist traffic in winters. Popularly known as the
Golden Fort as it seems to reflect the lustrous gold sunrays that bathe the
yellow Jaisalmer deserts during the day, it is counted among the top tourist
destinations of Rajasthan and is a must visit.
