Manas National ParkManas National Park is a ‘four in one’ wildlife sanctuary. Its an important project tiger reserve, also an elephant reserve, a biosphere reserve in Assam and above all its an UNESCO world heritage site. Located in the foothills of Himalaya with a part extend to Bhutan, Manas national park is a secluded place and cover with deciduous forest. The combination of sub-Himalayan Bhabar Terai and sub-Himalayan mountain forest making it one of the richest biodiversity area in the world. The park spread over an area of 391 square kilometer. The park is covered with moist tropical deciduous forest. They are interlarded with swamplands. The wetlands are essential habitat of endangered hispid hare. The vegetation ranges from Khairsissoo-bhabar grass community to semi evergreens. Other vegetations includes of simul, khoir, udal, sida, bohera and kanchan and sal forests.

Manas is some of the few wildlife park where endangered species lives without much disturbance. It is a secure place of more than 20 highly endangered wildlife species, which include the rare golden langur, hispid hare, pygmy hog, red pandas and giant hornbills. The park is also famous for giants wildlife including Asian elephant, royal Bengal tiger, panther, leopard, clouded leopard, gaur, wild-buffalo, one-horned rhinoceros, civet cat, sloth bear, sambar, barasingha, monitor lizard, gharials, python, florican cormorants, ergets and many other migratory birds.

Different kinds of avian species are also an major attractions at Manas national park. Giant hornbills are one of the rarest bird found here. Also other smaller hornbills-the peid and grey hornbills are predominant here. Water bodies are specially known for herons and egrets. Preying birds like wagles, falcons and harriers are also common in the park. Apart from that migratory birds comes to the park during the winter months.

The best time to visit the park is during the months of November to April.

It is advisable to make booking in advance as there is a limitation of accommodation. Only facility inside the jungle is two bungalows in Mathanguri.

Other than jeep safari, boat ride and elephant ride is also very popular among tourists in Manas national park.

Watch wild animals at night with the help of night vision binocular.

No special permit is required to enter Manas but you need special permission field director at Barpeta road to stay inside the jungle.

Park frequently is in political and social unrest. Therefore, it is advisable to check out the latest position before planning a visit to the Park.
