Some
of the most striking monuments in India are on the Deccan Plateau, covering
the south-central area of the country. The ruins of
Hampi,
once the capital of the flourishing Vijaynagar Empire, include such gems as
the Vittala Temple, a World Heritage Monument. The Chalukyan capital of
Badami and its neighbouring villages are dotted with a profusion of
outstanding temples while the town of Bijapur boasts the Gol Gumbaz, the
second largest dome in the world after St Peters. Located in the midst of an
austere landscape of giant boulders, a visit to Hampi and its surrounding
areas is a must for someone fired with the zeal of curiosity.
The hotels in the remote areas are modest but the experience rewarding,
ending with a visit to a wildlife sanctuary and a couple of days of
relaxation in
Goa.
Day 1 : Arrive Chennai
Arrive Chennai. You are met and assisted by our representative at the
airport. Transferred to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day
2 : In Chennai
See all of South India's treasures under one roof, saunter along the beach,
play fisherman, take a catamaran ride, go turtle spotting, get close to the
natives, listen to a few unusual stories, explore the temples around Chennai
or take the road less travelled.
City tour of Chennai to include Fort St. George, Santhorne Cathedral, Fort
Museum and the Marina Beach .
Day 3 : Bangalore
Fly Chennai /
Bangalore this morning
followed by a brief city tour. Overnight stay in Bangalore.
Day 4 : Bangalore/ Mysore - 139 kms/ 3 hrs
In the morning drive to Mysore visiting the imposing statue of Gomateshvara
at Shravanabelagola and Tipu¹s Summer Palace at Srirangapattanam en
route. Stay at the hotel in Mysore for 2 nights.
Day 5 : Mysore
Visit the sights of
Mysore today
including the Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hill, Nandi Bull and the colourful
Devraja Market.
Day 6 : Mysore / Hassan (115 km - 4 hrs) / Chikmaglore 2 hrs
Drive on to Hassan this morning visiting the intricately carved Hoysala
temples . Reach Chikmaglore to make an overnight stay. Chikmagalur, a famous
coffee town of Karnataka, is located at a height of over 1900 metres.
Chikmagalur boasts a pretty Hoysala temple , the Kodandarama temple.
The famous temple towns of Halebid and Belur are also located close to
Chikmagalur. This hillside getaway also offers visitors an opportunity to be
one with nature, by visiting the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, taking picnics
to the picturesque Kemmanagundi and Bababudangiri hills or just trekking
around the region.
Day 7 : Belur
This day we make a visit to Belur and Halebid . Evening at leisure in
Chikmagalore.
Day
8 : To Hospet (Hampi)
Enjoy a morning visit to the temples and explore Hampi, the city razed by
the five Deccan sultans in 1565. Overnight stay in Hospet.
Day 9 : Badami
Drive to Badami and check into the hotel. Set amidst red sandstone hills
and rock-hewn tanks the beautiful villages of Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal
were once the capital cities of the Chalukyan empire. Visit Badami in the
afternoon including cave temples from the 6th & 7th century AD and the
famous Malegitti Shivalaya temple.
Day
10 : Badami
Visit Aihole including the Lad Khan temple, dating back to 450 AD, where
the earliest form of temple design can be seen, and Pattadakal which has
temples of the northern Nagara and southern Dravida schools.
Day 11 : Badami / Dandeli - 4 hrs
Drive to the Dandeli wildlife sanctuary and check into the Dandeli Resort
for 2 night.
Day 12 :Enjoy a game
Enjoy a game drive in the morning and late afternoon.
Day 13 : Dandeli / Goa - 1 hr
Enjoy another jungle visit before driving on to Goa. Visit the Basilica of
Bom Jesus, another World Heritage Monument, before checking into the hotel
for 2 nights.
Day 14 : Goa
At leisure.
Day 15 : Bombay
In the afternoon fly to Bombay and transfer to the hotel . The remaining
day is at leisure.
