Turmeric, a magical yellow powder straight comes out from Indian
grandmother's antiquated kitchen, not only make the cuisines more colourful
but also cure many diseases. Turmeric has been used in Indian kitchen since
time immemorial. This herb is used to spice up the food as well as cure many
ailments. According to ayurveda, Turmeric cleanses the body and ancient
practioners used it treat diseases like Jaundice, arthritis and various skin
diseases. Due to its anti inflammatory properties, it is also used as
excellent antiseptic. Also used in dermatological disorder.
A beautiful looking plant, it has attractive plant with large yellow and
white flower spikes surrounded by long leaves. The plant is not tall, reach
only a height of 3 feet. The turmeric belongs to the same family of ginger.
Though turmeric is widely used in India but only eight percent of it is
cultivated in India and rest cultivated in other parts of India. Due to
rapid diffusion of ayurveda in different countries other than Indian
subcontinent, world is also now observing the magic of this petty root and
available worldwide in the form of teas, capsules, tinctures, lotions,
ointments and powder.
Turmeric is widely used in various ailments and also in beauty care.
Primary use of turmeric is add flavor and color to foodstuff. Turmeric also
used as a dye in textile industry. Turmeric known as 'haldi' in Hindi, is
used in stomach tonics and blood purifiers. Now a days turmeric is used for
sik conditioning and applied raw for minor injuries due to its antioxidant,
anti tumour, anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is also used
for treatment of infections, arthritis, jaundice and fever. Mainly the
turmeric all healing properties preserve in its stalk, this part is usually
used to colour, preserve and flavour foods in everyday cooking.
