The Capital of "God's Own Country"
Thiruvananthapuram and its famous beaches are one of the most loved tourist
destination in India. It is the capital city of Kerala, the "God's own
Country". Popularly the city is known by its Anglicised name
Trivandrum. The originally name Tiruvananthapuram, literally splits into "Tiru","Anantha""puram"
meaning "the town of Lord Ananatha", the scared snake of Hindu
Mythology. The city has a noteworthy history of fine art and culture.
Trivandrum is also famous for its intricately carved temples.
Shree Padhmanabhaswamy temple
Shree Padhmanabhaswamy temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is held legendary by
the Hindus. The temple has a huge complex with a huge gopuram. It has a tank
beside it for ritual bathing.
Kovalam
Kovalam is 12 kms to the south of Thiruvananthapuram and is one of the
finest beaches in India. It has been developed into an integrated seaside
resort. The beach complex has many hotels, cottages, yoga centres etc.
The Kanakakunnu Palace
This palace in the heart of Trivandrum city is one of the most beautiful
buildings. The palace and its spanning grounds are today the sight for many
cultural meets. Some other Places are : Vizhinjam - modern fishing harbour.
Ponmudi - A pleasant resort at an elevation of 912m above sea level. Veli
lagoon - The boat club providing facilities for pedal boating, row boating,
swimming on the placid waters of the Veli lake.

Kanyakumari
The last tip of India, Kanyakumari is only 87 kms from Trivandrum. Also
known as Cape Comorin, this beautiful spot is based in the neighbouring
state of Tamil Nadu .
Varkala
This is a pilgrim sight for the devotees of Sree Narayana Guru, one of the
patron saints of Kerala. It is only 51 kms from Trivandrum by road and also
features of one of the best beaches in the State.
